What causes acne scars?

Many factors cause acne scarring, and sometimes it can be permanent. Acne does an exceptional job at damaging skin cells with the help of oil that clogs pores on your face — leading to acne breakouts. Once our body finally heals up (which might take weeks), we will produce extra collagen in order to repair this damage. Sometimes though, either too much or not enough collagen will end up being produced, which causes more problems for us than just minor blemishes!

What types of acne scars are there?

There are two main types: atrophic and keloid scars. Atrophic scarring occurs when cystic acne heals underneath your skin, while keloids occur when there is too much collagen in this area for it to be healthy or normal-looking.

Atrophic scars

There are three types of Atrophic scars:

  • Boxcar scars – lower cheeks or jaw, shaped like a tiny box
  • Ice-pick scars – cheeks, they look like little holes pointing down, tough to treat
  • Rolling scars – look like sloping edges, skin looks wavy

Hypertrophic (keloid scars)

Hypertrophic scars are formed when the body attempts to heal acne wounds. Although they usually end up looking like small, elevated lumps on your skin surface these can grow larger and more visible as time passes by if not treated properly.

What treatment methods do we offer for acne scarring?

Skin Needling – Promotes the growth of new collagen in your skin, encouraging your skin to heal itself, reducing the appearance of ice pick, boxcar, and rolling acne scars.

IPL – Treat breakouts, reduce acne causing bacteria, improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of acne scarring.

Chemical Peels – Chemical peels improve the appearance of acne scars by using a chemical solution to remove the outer layer of old skin. The new skin that replaces it is usually smoother and less scarred in appearance.

PRP injections utilize a process to convert your own blood into a gel-like substance rich in growth factors that can be injected into damaged areas of the face. This is done by having Licensed Practitioners draw out some of your own blood and then safely converting it into its injection form before being injected back into areas on the body with scarring, such as old acne scars!

The process is quick and painless, but it has longer-term effects. There are usually only minor side effects of bruising or swelling that settle quickly after the treatment.

Imagine yourself in the future, looking back at your acne-covered face and feeling so much more confident than ever. The scars you’ve been left with from years of picking are gone, replaced by skin as flawless as it was before all those hard nights spent trying to cover up what now looks like nothing but a distant memory.

Laser treatment is perfect for any scarring caused by severe acne thanks to light therapy such as Laser Genesis that penetrates deep into layers of our skin’s dermis with a wavelength of 1064nm – stimulating cell production, breaking down scar tissue while reducing redness over time.
