I’ve Come to Suck Your Blood! Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is used in medicine to promote healing and fight ageing. In cosmetics, it is sometimes referred to as the ‘Vampire Facelift’!

Just like a midnight encounter with Dracula, blood is involved as well as sharp pointy things penetrating your skin.

I don’t like needles (though I’m great at taking blood), but I do think Dracula is pretty cool. Unfortunately, the needle is necessary because PRP comes from blood. PRP is the result of centrifuging (spinning really fast) the whole blood in a special test tube. Three layers are formed: the bottom one is the red cells that give the blood it’s familiar colour, the middle one is the filtering gel which separates the red cells from the PRP and the top layer is the PRP. Use the wrong gel and you don’t get platelet RICH plasma and it’s the platelets that PRP is all about.

Platelets are little bags of goodies (granules) that do all the work. The granules are full of helpful natural molecules like growth factors. Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is just one and it is especially important in promoting growth in childhood. Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) is another and its job is to induce tissue remodelling and stimulate collagen production and wound healing. It is the platelets that promote healing and fight ageing.

Not all clinics use the special test tube because they are expensive but, just like the cost of not being able to see the sun again, the bite is worth it if you get the eternal youth and beauty, right?

Come by Skinthetics and I promise that you will feel our bite is worth your buck.
